Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the most streamed song within six months. The single Despacito which was a mix of reggaeton and pop, not only brought new attention to reggaeton music but also brought more attention to Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish language, while the year 2016 featured four. In 2017, at the height of Despacito's popularity, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish were included in the Top 100. The year 2020 will see it will have 41 hits within this genre. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together for the track MIA MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma to record Medellin in the year 2019. In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at their genre's shift towards the mainstream but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro, sought to continue the evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, as well as different styles was an accepted practice.
